More than 80 quilts will be on display at the Sarpy County Museum in Bellevue, Nebraska June 1 – Aug. 16. This annual show features both historic and modern quilts created or owned by Sarpy County residents. Visitors can pick up a self-guided tour program to learn the story behind each quilt.

The Great Sarpy County Quilt Exhibit, “Depression to Digital: Celebrating 80 Years of Quilting,” begins with a Trunk Show featuring Marjean Sargent, June 1 from 2-4 p.m. Sargent will discuss the history and design of crazy quilts. Refreshments will be served.

Other events planned to coincide with the show include Saturday afternoon demonstrations and a quilt raffle. The 2014 raffle quilt, “Sarpy Stars,” is a queen-sized, red, white and blue original design by award-winning quilter Dorothy Muse. Tickets are available at the museum.

“Tile Quilts: Then and Now” Lecture and Trunk Show of contemporary tile quilts with Carol Gilham Jones of Lawrence, Kansas.

Carol will tell us all about tile quilts, from their beginning in the 19th century to modern times, and she’ll share a wonderful selection of contemporary tile quilts.

Carol and Bobbi Finley, who lives in San Jose, CA, had the good fortune of meeting at a San Francisco Bay Area quilting retreat in 1990. The friendship that grew out of their meeting soon included working together on quilts, despite their geographic distance. After collaborating on many quilt projects over the years, they wrote their first book together, Tile Quilt Revival: Reinventing a Forgotten Form, which was published by C&T Publishing in 2010.
