Quilts for a Cause

In the past this committee primarily focused on supporting breast cancer research and other women's health issues. While that it is still one of the many projects that we hope our members will support, this committee is broadening it's scope and will try to serve as connection point between organizations wanting our very specific type of assistance and quilters interested in donating items to those charities. As requests come into the guild, I will pass them along. Hopefully we will be able to link organizations to quilters who support their causes.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Thank you to those who stepped up to piece quilt pieces and complete quilts for the Komen Foundation. Kathy Havranek is working with Komen and is our best source of information regarding the Foundation's needs at this time. We do have other projects that need to find quilters so if this is your pet cause, please contact Kathy or Jan Fry for more information.

Puttin' On The Pink 2010

On Thursday, April 22nd, Jan Fry, Mary Cave and Kathy Havranek attended the fundraiser for Susan G. Komen. Jan designed and Mary quilted the Heart Of My Heart quilt that was pieced by many OQG members. The quilt was signed by survivors and those supporting the search for a cure. It sold for $275 and was purchased by a quilter from central Nebraska.

As the evening progressed, balloons were popped, and our own Mary Cave held the “winner” ticket. Mary herself, an eight year breast cancer survivor, was escorted to the stage to receive the grand prize of the evening. The sponsors were delighted to know that a quilter had won, and were able to thank her for her contributions to the Komen cause. Mary won Opera Omaha tickets, dinner, and a ride in that Pink limo, with friends..................Who's calling her first????

It was a heartwarming evening to see a reward come to one who contributes by the work of her hands to our community. Thanks Mary and Jan, and all of you OQG members who make me proud of your Community Connections.
