A Holiday Message from NQA

Dec2013

Although difficult to believe, we’re now in the midst of the holiday season and nearing the end of 2013.  For quilters, that usually means putting the finishing touches on quilts and other projects that will be given to loved ones at an upcoming gathering, sent to a dear one in a distant city or shared with those in need of the physical warmth and emotional support offered by your hand-crafted gift of love.

While reflecting on the accomplishments of the past year, it’s also the time to look forward to the new year.  Snuggle up in a quilt while you plan some new project or guild activity, decide to make a quilt to donate to the Little Quilt Auction, or to make an entry for the NQA Quilt Show. And don't forget to make plans to attend the NQA Show on May 23-25, 2014.

From the President: Marcel Miller

Rituals and traditions are abundant during the holidays. Favorite foods, warm fires, hot chocolate, and stories. Brightly wrapped presents, joyful music shared with family, friends, and neighbors. These sights and sounds become part of the memories of the holidays.

Folks in the Midwest will only have their memories this year as they dealing with the aftermath of the tornadoes. The widespread devastation affecting many families and communities have left families with homes or possessions.

NQA is asking you, generous quilters that you are, to share the warmth of this season and give a quilt to the Disaster Response Team efforts going on now.

Happy Holidays,

Marcel Miller

Dec2013 We Can Do It With Your Help!

The NQA Board of Directors is looking for someone to join us as the Membership Services Chair. Join our dynamic group of dedicated individuals serving the membership of NQA. If you are interested in this position contact Marcel Miller at president@nqaquilts.org

From the Annual Show Director: Linda Miller

Thank you to all of the loyal NQA and Sew Batik supporters!  All 100 of the Sew Batik kits have been ordered, processed and sent out, and now the fun begins!  Let the theme inspire you, as you consider “Going Green!”. All that is old is new again, and the holidays bring us a touch of nostalgia to go along with it.  For the members of the National Quilting Association, the story behind the quilt drives the creation of the quilt! Entrants of the Sew Batik Challenge will again have the opportunity to allow their quilt to travel the country as part of the 2014 NQA Sew Batik Challenge.  Forms and more information will be available on-line in January.

The detailed planning of the 45th Annual NQA Quilt Show is well underway now, and it is turning out to be a busy holiday season for sure!  Plan to join us in May as we celebrate Memorial Day weekend together in Columbus Ohio at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.  There will be friends to meet, things to see, classes to take, and shopping to do. Show dates are May 23-25, 2014.  Details to be posted in January.

Happy Holidays!
